Browns Make Decision on Jerry Jeudy After Monken Hire

The Cleveland Browns have no plans to part ways with wide receiver Jerry Jeudy despite a turbulent season that included both on-field inconsistency and off-field frustration.

Cleveland entered the year expecting Jeudy to serve as its No. 1 wide receiver after he earned Pro Bowl honors the previous season. Instead, Jeudy struggled to match that production, finishing with 50 receptions for 602 yards and two touchdowns.

Frustration was evident throughout the season. Jeudy was involved in a sideline exchange with quarterback Shedeur Sanders and later drew attention for a terse, one-word response during a press conference, moments that fueled speculation about his future with the team.

Despite those issues, the Browns are expected to bring Jeudy back next season, per to insider Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com.

“Despite the rough year, Jeudy will be back with the Browns in 2026 with the expectation that he’ll rebound amid some quarterback stability. The Browns haven’t identified their starter for 2026 yet, but they’re confident they’ll be better at QB than in 2025, when third-round pick Dillon Gabriel went 1-5 and fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders went 3-4,” Cabot said. “Jeudy has two years left on his three-year extension worth $17.5 million a year, but the Browns have an out after 2026, given that the dead cap charge for 2027 would only be about $7.15 million. Of course, that will be a moot point if Jeudy has the comeback year the Browns are hoping for.”

After the season wrapped up, Jeudy posted a message on social media about his challenging year.

“Some seasons teach more than they give. Thankful for the growth. Locked in for what’s ahead,” Jeudy said in the post.

As Cabot noted, Jeudy’s bounce back will depend on the quarterback situation in Cleveland. The Browns currently have Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel under contract for next season. New head coach Todd Monken has not committed to a quarterback yet.

“I think like any position on the team, that’s still to be determined,” Monken said. “Am I excited about Shedeur? Am I excited about all the quarterbacks in the room? Am I excited to coach this football team? Absolutely. I can’t wait for them to get back and for us to get started.”

Browns Name New WR Coach

Jeudy and the rest of the Browns’ wide receivers will be working under a new position coach next season. Cleveland is expected to name Christian Jones as its wide receivers coach, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. Jones spent last season on the Browns’ staff coaching tight ends and is now set to shift into a new role within Monken’s revamped offensive staff.

While the Browns’ offense struggled during a 5-12 campaign, Jones was instrumental in the development of rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. He delivered one of the most productive first seasons by a tight end in franchise history. A third-round pick, Fannin led the team with 72 receptions for 731 yards and six touchdowns.

Monken has already filled out much of his offensive coaching staff as he begins his first season as head coach. That group includes offensive coordinator Travis Switzer, offensive line coach George Warhop, quarterbacks coach Mike Bajakian, pass game coordinator Danny Breyer and tight ends coach Jeff Blasko.

Attention now turns to the defensive side of the ball, where Monken still must hire a coordinator after Jim Schwartz tendered his resignation earlier this week.
