Report: Warriors Make Surprising Draymond Green Decision

Ahead of the NBA trade deadline on Thursday afternoon, the Golden State Warriors have been extremely busy in the rumor mill.

Ever since the season-ending ACL injury suffered by Jimmy Butler, the Warriors have been consistently linked to trade rumors. With Stephen Curry’s career winding down, Golden State wants to be aggressive in pursuing another NBA Finals run.

In order to make any kind of sizable trade, the Warriors would likely need to move on from longtime star forward Draymond Green. He has been rumored to be a big part of any potential trade package for Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.

While it’s possible the Bucks will choose to keep Antetokounmpo until the offseason, Golden State seems motivated to move on from Green.

Golden State Warriors Place Draymond Green on the Trade Block

According to a new report from ESPN insider Anthony Slater, the Warriors have placed Green on the trade block leading up to the deadline.

What exactly that report means remains to be seen.

Is Golden State openly shopping Green to any potential buyer? Are the Warriors only placing him on the “trade block” in specific trade scenarios? Only time will tell the answer to that question.

Should Green be on the open trade market, there are quite a few teams around the league who could have interest in acquiring him. He’s still a good defender and is the kind of glue player that ever true contender needs to have. Those qualities have a lot of value.

Throughout the course of the 2025-26 NBA season thus far, Green has played in 41 games. He has averaged 8.4 points per game to go along with 5.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.7 blocks, while shooting 41.6 percent from the floor and 32.1 percent from three-point range.

Even at 35 years old, Golden State should have a large market in trade discussions revolving around Green.

Which Teams Could Have Interest in Trading for Draymond Green?

Looking around the league, there are a few teams who pop out as potential trade suitors for Green.

Teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, San Antonio Spurs, and Minnesota Timberwolves could make sense. Other contenders could have interest in a deal at the right price.

Green currently has a player option on his contract for the upcoming NBA offseason. That could scare some teams away, as he could end up being a half-season rental.

It will be interesting to see what the Warriors choose to do ahead of the deadline. They don’t have much time remaining with Curry playing at the current superstar level he’s performing at. Perhaps trading Green would help them become more competitive now.

Expect to continue hearing rumors surrounding Golden State as the trade deadline draws even closer. With just about 48 hours left to make a move, the Warriors will continue discussing different options to determine if they can make a win-now move.
