Over the past few weeks, the New York Mets have been one of the most active teams in MLB in terms of offseason transactions. Now that spring training is quickly on the horizon, it’s time to grade the Mets’ offseason as a whole, and MLB insider Jim Bowden believes the Mets have had one of the strongest offseasons of any team.
Some of the big names the Mets have added via free agency include: Bo Bichette, Jorge Polanco, Devin Williams, and Luke Weaver. The players New York has added via trade are: starter Freddy Peralta, Marcus Semien, and Luis Robert. While the Mets seemed to have addressed some of their issues on paper after losing Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz early in free agency, the 2026 season will be the ultimate judge of how the Mets performed this winter.

MLB Insider Jim Bowden Reveals Mets Offseason Grade
In a recent article by TheAthletic’s Jim Bowden, the veteran MLB insider reveals offseason grades for all 30 MLB teams.
For the Mets, they received an “A-” grade by Bowden, and here’s why:
“Freddy Peralta gives the Mets another top-of-the-rotation starter to go with rookie Nolan McLean. They also added Devin Williams and Luke Weaver to replace Edwin DÃaz and Tyler Rogers at the back of the bullpen. These upgrades seem good enough to get the Mets back to the postseason.”

Postseason?? Mets fans across MLB might be a bit wary and hesitant to declare their beloved Mets as a playoff lock after the 2025 season ended in such disaster. However, yes, the Mets have made enough additions (on paper) for many to think this current roster is a playoff team.

How Will the Mets’ Additions Help the 2026 Team?
There’s no doubt the Mets have had one of the better offseasons in MLB, but with Steve Cohen and David Stearns in charge, that should be a given.
The additions of Bo Bichette, Jorge Polanco, and Marcus Semien give the Mets almost a completely new look at the infield.
While there are question marks surrounding Luis Robert Jr’s offense over the past two seasons, the Mets are set to give him a starting spot in the outfield, and he will be one of the most interesting pieces of this revamped Mets roster.
The Mets know what they are getting in Freddy Peralta, which might have been the biggest addition of the offseason for New York. Peralta slots as the ace of the staff and may be vying for an NL Cy Young in 2026.
And the team might not be done making moves, as there is still plenty of talent left on the market. Â New York will continue to be linked to the highest-profile free agents, but there are reports that suggest the Mets are interested in some lower-cost options like Ty France.Â
