Browns Hire New Coach to Work With Shedeur Sanders

Todd Monken is building his coaching staff with the Cleveland Browns, and his latest hire will be working closely with Shedeur Sanders and the rest of the quarterbacks.

The Browns are expected to hire Mike Bajakian as their quarterbacks coach. He’ll take the place of Bill Musgrave. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network first reported the hire.

“The Browns are expected to hire Mike Bajakian as quarterbacks coach,” Pelissero said. “Bajakian recently took the QBs job at Michigan State. But he worked with Todd Monken in Tampa and now reunites with him in Cleveland.”

The Browns hired Monken to reboot the offense after a rough year. Cleveland averaged just 262.1 yards and 16.4 points per game last season, ranking near the bottom of the NFL in both categories.

Bajakian will work with new offensive coordinator Travis Switzer, who Monken brough over from the Baltimore Ravens. George Warhop will lead the offensive line, while Danny Breyer has been hired as the pass game coordinator.

Browns Looking for Answers at Quarterback

The quarterback room will be under the spotlight heading into next season. The Browns have Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel and Deshaun Watson under contract. Sanders started the final seven games last season, finishing with a 3-4 record. He passed for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. However, the Browns did not commit to him as the starter moving forward.

The Browns are expected to explore every avenue at quarterback, including free agency and the trade market. Cleveland also holds picks No. 6 and No. 24 in the NFL Draft, though this year’s class isn’t widely viewed as particularly deep at the position.

“I think we saw a lot of progress with Shedeur this year. I think that’s both mentally, physically, playing the position. He’s still very much a work in progress like many rookie quarterbacks are,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said. “Now that all being said, we’re going to do our work on the quarterback market. It’s too important of a position and it’s something that has to be solidified. I can’t sit here and tell you today, you know, whether the solution for or the starter in 2026 is internal or external.”

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Prepping for Pro Bowl Appearance

Sanders was a surprising Pro Bowl replacement this week, adding another twist to what’s already been a wild ride for the former Colorado star. After sliding to the fifth round in the draft, he opened the season buried on Cleveland’s depth chart. Now, he’ll cap his rookie year at the Pro Bowl Games — surrounded by some of the NFL’s biggest names.

“Thank you God. I’m beyond excited and extremely grateful for all the love and support from the coaches, players, and fans,” Sanders said. “This wouldn’t be possible without the support behind me. Still plenty of work to do.”

Sanders has said that he is not stressing the Browns’ looming QB decision. While he’s viewed as the early frontrunner to start Week 1, Sanders made it clear he’s focused on his development and letting Cleveland’s decision-makers handle the rest.

“I think I did what I was able to do, and I definitely grew from a lot of things, and I got experience now,” Sanders said. “So, I’m always the same, confidence-wise, I’m there. But like, that’s not in my hands. Like, that’s not my decision. I can’t speak on what other people feel.”
