The Seattle Seahawks’ defense have been playing on a different level since Nov. 30. No other team has scored 20 or more points against the Seahawks’ defense, aside from the Los Angeles Rams, who did it on Dec. 18 and in the NFC title game.
As a result, the New England Patriots have a daunting task if they want to beat Seattle and win Super Bowl LX. Moreover, former Patriots QB and FOX NFL analyst Tom Brady has experience facing a vaunted defense from Seattle.
Speaking on Seattle Sports radio, Brady reflected on the Legion of Boom and the current Seahawks defense, known as the “Dark Side.”
“I think they’re very different defenses, and I would say the Legion of Boom had incredible players at all levels,” Brady said in a video posted by Seattle Sports on Jan. 29. “… There are a lot of differences. [The Legion of Boom’s] scheme was a little more predictable.
“If I saw certain coverages, I knew where the weak spots were. It’s not as predictable with this defense. This defense spins the dial a little bit more with their coverage schemes, where they decide to put their help. They do play the shell, and there’s a lot of late rotation.
“Sometimes, whether they cloud one side, sometimes they cloud the other. It takes a Matthew Stafford surgical passing team to really exploit that. There’s a lot of teams that aren’t good matchups, that are good matchups for the Seattle defense. Seattle will thrive in certain areas against certain teams, in my opinion.”

Moreover, Brady also noted what Patriots QB Drake Maye must do in order to get the best of this Seahawks team, which has only seen Rams star Matthew Stafford get the best of them. However, it hasn’t led to wins for LA during those last two meetings.
“You’ve got to almost have productive play after productive play, keep the ball moving forward against this defense,” Brady added. “It’s going to take a quarterback that really has to read coverage as well, see the soft spots, deliver the ball accurately, [and] receivers that give the quarterback really good body language.
“You’re going to have to have an assortment of wide receivers, and tight ends, and backs that can catch the ball. That, to me, is the most effective style against this defense.”
Seahawks QB Sam Darnold Earns Praise From Joe Montana
Meanwhile, Seahawks QB Sam Darnold is earning praise for his play that has Seattle in the Super Bowl. During a Jan. 27 appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” San Francisco 49ers legend Joe Montana shared his thoughts on Darnold turning his career around, which began during his stint in the Bay Area.
“I’m all for Sam Darnold,” Montana said. “The things that he’s been through, the places that he’s played, the games that he’s won, even here in San Francisco before he got to Minnesota. I mean, come on.
“I saw the stat the other day on Sunday. He’s won 28 games in the last two teams he was with, and he’s now getting another chance here, and he’s doing the same thing. And I’m pulling for him. I’m an NFC guy most of the time anyway, but I’m all about Sam. He’s a good guy, good player, and I’m happy for him.”
