Insider Drops Huge Bills, Raiders News Amid Head Coach Search

The Las Vegas Raiders and Buffalo Bills might be in the middle of a head coach battle. Both teams have an open vacancy for the position, and they appear to be leaning toward hiring an offensive-minded head coach.

With the two front offices continuing their search for their next head coach, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter shared the latest, noting that not only are these two teams looking for an offensive guy, but they have the same targets in mind.

“I think the candidates on the Raiders and the Bills radar are pretty similar,” Schefter said during a Jan. 26 appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “We have essentially the Bills feel like they’re going to go offense.

“It feels like Davis Webb, Brian Daboll, Joe Brady, [and] Grant Udinski. That’s what it feels like to me in Buffalo right now. The Raiders, it looks like it could be Davis Webb, Joe Brady is there today, Brian Daboll, the same names in both places.

“Now, I would think that obviously, Josh Allen is going to be more of a drawing card than the Raiders’ situation. But if you love Fernando Mendoza, then go take the Raiders’ job and spend the next decade with him. That’s certainly viable.”

Moreover, Schefter followed up that information, noting that Webb completed his interview with the Bills and was going to interview with the Raiders next.

“Bills now have completed their interview with Broncos passing game coordinator and QB coach Davis Webb; he now will interview for the Raiders head coaching job next, Schefter wrote on Jan. 25 on X.

More Details on Las Vegas’ Interest in Davis Webb

Amid the Raiders ready to interview Webb, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer focused on Denver Broncos offensive pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

“Davis Webb to me might be the most interesting name though, Breer said on the Jan. 22 edition of “The Rich Eisen Show.” “He’s incredibly well thought of. He hasn’t coached for very long is the problem, but he played in the league recently. He’s my understanding, like got a passing relationship with Tom Brady, but he’s got two offensive coordinator names that I know are on this list that have tight connections to Brady.

“One is Brian Daboll, who could wind up going to Tennessee as the coordinator, could go to Buffalo as the head coach, but Brian Daboll’s one name for Davis Webb. They were together both in New York and Buffalo when Davis was a player… so I think Davis Webb has a ton of head coach qualities.”

Davis Webb Could Be the Raiders’ Sean McVay

Breer also floats the idea that the Raiders could take a page from the Los Angeles Rams by betting on a younger coach with limited experience, much like when they hired Sean McVay. The question, though, is whether Las Vegas feels pressure to move quickly, knowing that Webb could be a head coach somewhere else soon, if not next year then shortly after.

“I think part of it is the same thing with the Rams, Breer added. “The Rams had with McVay, right? Like, which is like, I remember talking to the Rams front office people when they hired Sean, and the whole thing was, ‘Well, we can hire him now a year early, or we just won’t get him at all, because if he doesn’t get a job this year, he’s going to get one next year, and we’re not going to be looking for one next year, right?

“I think with Davis, that’s part of the logic: Do we go in early on a guy, a year early with a guy, bring in an experienced offensive coordinator who can work with the quarterback, and just bet on this guy’s upside side? And so, I think Davis Webb has a shot in Vegas under that sort of setup.”
