The Baltimore Ravens have a lot of work to do this offseason. After missing out on the playoffs, the front office will be hard at work when it comes to revamping the roster over the next few months. Oh, and they still need a head coach after John Harbaugh was surprisingly fired shortly after their season came to an end.
It’s a busy time in Baltimore for sure, but it shouldn’t take much for this team to reemerge as a playoff contender in 2026. That’s because the Ravens have several talented superstars leading the way, with one such player being running back Derrick Henry. As he gets older, retirement rumors have begun to swirl around Henry, but his latest comments on the matter will surely excite fans.
Derrick Henry Not Thinking About Retirement Yet
By now, Henry’s standing as one of the best running backs in the NFL is common knowledge. In his first season with the Ravens in 2024, Henry turned in one of the best seasons of his career, as he racked up 1,921 yards and a league-leading 16 rushing touchdowns on 325 carries. With Lamar Jackson under center, Baltimore featured arguably the most dominant rushing attack in the league.
In 2025, Henry wasn’t as good, but he still turned in another strong campaign (307 CAR, 1,595 YDS, 16 TD). He struggled with fumbles throughout the year, and his usage by Harbaugh throughout the season was puzzling. Henry was rarely utilized as a receiver, and he was often taken off the field in obvious passing situations.
Henry closed the year out with four-straight 100-yard performances, indicating that he still has a lot of gas left in the tank. At 32 years old, though, he’s on the older side for a running back, leading to questions about how much longer he intends to play. Henry has heard the retirement rumors swirling around him as of late, but he recently made it clear that he has no plans to call it a career anytime soon.
“I’m motivated more than ever,” Henry said in an exclusive interview with DJ Siddiqi. “I really appreciated this year and how it all went down, because it motivated me to be ready to get back when next year comes, and work as hard as I can in the offseason to be better. I don’t have no timeline. I’m just ready to go.”
Ravens Will Continue to Lean on Derrick Henry in 2026

Had Henry not gotten phased out of the offense at various times throughout the season, there’s a decent chance the Ravens could have at least made the playoffs this year. Whoever ends up taking over for Harbaugh at head coach likely won’t make the same mistake, as Henry has proven that, even as he’s getting older, he’s still one of the most explosive playmakers in the league.
Baltimore has some work to do when it comes to building up the offense around him and Jackson, but with these two guys in place, it feels like the Ravens have the ability to beat any team in the league. If this duo can simply stay healthy in 2026, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Baltimore make some noise when it returns to action next year.
