Democratic Governor Agrees with Trump on Senator, “Should Never Be Elected Again”

Gov. Janet Mills

After U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and four other Republicans on Thursday voted with Democrats on the bipartisan resolution to restrict President Trump’s power to use military force “within or against” Venezuela unless he receives congressional approval, Trump said all five Republicans “should never be elected to office again.”

Note: The other four Republicans who voted in favor of the bipartisan resolution are Lisa Murkowski (AK), Rand Paul (KY), Josh Hawley (MO), and Todd Young (IN).

Democratic Maine Governor Janet Mills, who is now running against Collins for the seat she’s held since 1997, reposted Trump’s remark about Collins with a photo of herself, implying that she agrees with the President, at least on the issue of Collins’s suitability for office. (It’s a classic case of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” — for the moment.)

The photo above was taken in February at the governors meeting where Trump threatened to cut federal funding to Maine if Mills didn’t comply with his executive order regarding transexual athletes in competitive sports. Mills replied: “See you in court.”

Mills will face first-time Democratic candidate Graham Platner, a military veteran and oyster farmer who has been endorsed by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), in the primary. When asked why Democrats shouldn’t get behind a “battle-tested” candidate like Mills, Platner replied: “If we keep running the same kind of playbooks, if we keep having DC choose candidates for Maine that don’t always represent the entire electorate of the state then we run the risk of having another 2020.”

Note: Trump has never won the state of Maine in any of his three presidential elections (2016, 2020, 2024).
