Minneapolis mayor compares critics of his ICE remarks to Disney princesses

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey issued a tongue-in-cheek apology after critics blasted his call for ICE agents to “get the f— out” of the city following a deadly shooting involving federal agents there.

Frey made his initial demand Wednesday night, just hours after a masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer gunned down 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in a residential neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis.

“I’m so sorry if I offended their Disney princess ears, but here’s the thing — if we’re talking about what’s inflammatory, on one hand you got someone who dropped an f-bomb, and you got someone who killed somebody else,” Frey said in an appearance on CNN late Wednesday night.

“I think the most inflammatory action is killing somebody. And so, once again, let’s be real and just honest and straight up about what’s happening here. This is not OK,” he added.

“Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, you should understand the importance of constitutional law enforcement,” Frey continued. “You should understand the importance of not discriminating, based on race, and randomly plucking people off the street because they’re Somali or Latino. And especially from what we’ve seen, you should also understand the importance of de-escalating tense situations, not killing people and yanking out a gun.”

Video of the deadly shooting on Wednesday shows an officer approaching an SUV stopped in the middle of the road, then demanding the driver open the door and grabbing the handle. At that point, the vehicle begins to move forward and a different ICE officer pulls his weapon and immediately fires at least two shots at close range, then quickly jumps out of the way.

Good died on the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. She was described by loves ones as an “affectionate” mother of three children who had recently moved to Minnesota. She also described herself as a poet on social media.

Following the deadly confrontation, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called Good a “domestic terrorist” whose killing was justified.
