Bo Bichette’s Stunning Contract Demands Revealed as Blue Jays Hopes Dim

The Toronto Blue Jays may not be re-signing Bo Bichette after his contract demands were revealed.

Bichette remains a free agent, as it’s been a slow-moving market for him. Yet, several teams have been showing interest in him. However, MLB insider Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported on Thursday that Bichette wants a contract worth $300 million.

“As an ultra young free agent at 27, Bichette’s ask is thought around $300 million,” Heyman wrote. “Which at first blush may sound high considering that’s the ballpark of even more accomplished shortstops Corey Seager, Trea Turner and Francisco Lindor. But maybe not when you consider how deals for Juan Soto and Bichette’s teammate/great friend Vlad Guerrero Jr. moved the market. (Logic says Seager at 27 might get $500M today considering that’s what Guerrero got.)

“Bichette was on his way to leading the AL in hits for a third time in four years when he hurt his knee. He played a near-starring World Series cameo and should be fine for 2026. And he’s the only player to hit .300 on fastballs, breaking balls and changeups/splits in 2025. Since 2021, he’s one of three to hit .290 plus with a .450 plus slugging percentage to all three fields, (Guerrero and Yordan Alvarez). So you can see why his dance card is full.”

Bichette wanting $300 million does seem like a lot, especially if teams are vieweing him as a second baseman.

If Bichette is adamant about getting $300 million, that likely has impacted why he’s still a free agent.

What was Bichette Predicted to Get?

Entering the offseason, Bichette was considered one of the top free agents available and would land a lucrative multi-year deal.

MLBTradeRumors predicted Bichette would sign an eight-year, $208 million deal, well short of the $300 million he wants.

ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel, meanwhile, predicted Bichette would ink a five-year, $130 million deal, nowhere near the $300 million he’s after.

“There’s also a chance Bichette’s market takes a turn similar to Bregman’s last winter. Toward a shorter term with opt-outs (two or three years, roughly a $30 million AAV) if he doesn’t get the giant guarantee he’s looking for,” McDaniel wrote. “This has a real chance to happen because Bichette could hit the market in his 20s next winter. And a full, healthy 2026, maybe even with better defense, would really help his case for a big long-term deal.”

Bichette has led the AL in hits twice and is a two-time MLB All-Star.

Blue Jays ‘Unlikely’ to Bring Back Bichette

Toronto has been very aggressive this offseason, and it may not be done.

The Blue Jays have been linked to signing Kyle Tucker and Bichette. However, Blue Jays insider Mitch Bannon of The Athletic said it’s unlikely Toronto will bring back Bichette.

“The Toronto Blue Jays remain linked to All-Star hitters Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker,” Bannon wrote. “Although league sources said the Jays have increased their efforts to recruit Tucker, who remains a roster fit after the signing of Japanese slugger Kazuma Okamoto, a reunion with Bichette appears increasingly unlikely.”

Bichette hit .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs last season.
