Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor’s job security has been a topic of hot debate since the Bengals lost eight out of nine games following the injury to franchise quarterback Joe Burrow.
Burrow returned in Week 12, leading the team to a 3-3 finish in the final six weeks. Cincinnati ended the season at 6-11 and earned the 10th overall selection in this April’s NFL Draft.
With four coaches fired this weekend alone, making a total of six head coach vacancies across the league, Bengals fans were anxiously awaiting an announcement on Taylor.
Team president Mike Brown gave fans what they wanted in an official statement.
“Our focus is on building a team that can consistently compete at the highest level, with the goal of winning championships,” Brown said in the statement. “After thoughtful consideration, I am confident that Duke Tobin and Zac Taylor are the right leaders to guide us forward.
“They have proven they can build and lead teams that compete for championships. We trust their plans and expect to return to our desired level of success.”
The Bengals have now missed the playoffs three years in a row after making a Super Bowl appearance in 2021 and an AFC Conference Championship Game in 2022.
Tobin has been with the Bengals since 1999 and was named the NFL’s Executive of the Year in 2022.
Both will return in 2026.
Taylor Earns Bode Of Confidence Inside Locker Room
Zac Taylor doesn’t only have the support of the owner and the president, but many of the players inside the locker room came out in his defense after the final game of the season.
“I’m very confident in our coaching staff,” quarterback Joe Burrow said. “I know those guys work really hard to put us in good positions and I always feel well prepared and put in the best spot to succeed.”
The offensive line room seems to feel the same, with long-time NFL veterans Orlando Brown and Ted Karras also coming to the defense of the current staff.
“Culture,” Brown said. “It’s our foundation. As long as we have our leaders show up, and we do, that’s the key for the future.”
