The Golden State Warriors beat the Utah Jazz on Saturday, led by Steph Curry‘s 31 points and five assists. The Warriors overcame a slow first half and Draymond Green‘s ejection late in the second quarter to earn their 19th win of the season.
Speaking to the media after the game, Curry was asked about his thoughts on Green’s second ejection of the season. It was also the second time the former Defensive Player of the Year was tossed in two weeks. He was previously ejected on December 20 against the Phoenix Suns.
“We won the game. That’s all we care about. That’s all he cares about. I know he’d rather be out there. I don’t know what he said to the ref, but I didn’t think it was, or the consensus in the locker room was, it wasn’t enough to get thrown out,” Curry said, via NBC Sports Bay Area & California.
Green had eight points, three rebounds and two assists before he was ejected for arguing. De’Anthony Melton picked up the slack off the bench, scoring 13 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Gary Payton II added 10 points and eight rebounds in Golden State’s 123-114 win.
Draymond Green’s Ejection
For the second time this season, Draymond Green was ejected after arguing with the referees. Green was calling for a three-second violation on the Utah Jazz, but it wasn’t called by referee Simone Jelks. He then continued arguing with Jelks and was given his first technical foul, as per ESPN’s Anthony Slater.
Green then turned his attention to referee Kevin Cutler, who also received an earful from the four-time NBA champion. Cutler didn’t hesitate and called a quick second technical foul on Green, who had no choice but to go back to the locker room with the Golden State Warriors down.
According to Yahoo! Sports, Green now has nine technical fouls this season. It’s the second most in the NBA, tied with Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers. The only player with more technical fouls is Dillon Brooks of the Phoenix Suns, who has 12 and counting.
Speaking of Brooks and the Suns, Green’s first ejection of the season happened against Phoenix on December 20. He was also hit with two technical fouls after arguing with referees in the second quarter.
Steph Curry Sets NBA Record in Win
By just playing on Saturday, Steph Curry broke an NBA record, as reported by The Athletic. Steph, alongside his father Dell Curry, now owns the record for most games played by a father and son in the league with 2,135.
The Currys moved past the previous record holders, Dolph and Danny Schayes, who set it way back in 1999, in what was Danny’s final season in the league. Dolph played 15 seasons with the Syracuse Nationals/Philadelphia 76ers franchise, while Danny suited up for seven teams in 18 seasons.
Meanwhile, Steph is in his 17th NBA season with one year left on his contract for another campaign. Dell played 16 years in the league, playing for the Utah Jazz, Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors.
