The end of the 2025 regular season is approaching and major questions loom over the future of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff.Â
While whispers around the league suggest head coach Todd Bowles may ultimately survive another disappointing finish, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler reports that at least one key assistant is very much in danger.Â
As Sports Illustrated noted according to Fowler, Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard could be headed for a one-and-done tenure in Tampa Bay.Â
âThere is talk in some league circles about the future of Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard,â Fowler wrote.Â
âThe offense has tanked of late, and Baker Mayfield has regressed in the second half of the season⦠the Bucsâ offense canât stop the slide.âÂ
That assessment has only grown louder as Tampa Bay limps into a must-win Week 18 matchup.Â
Their playoff hopes are barely alive as they need a win over the Carolina Panthers and a loss from the Falcons to make it.Â
Calls Growing for Grizzard to Be Fired
Around the league, thereâs a growing sense that change is inevitable on the offensive side of the ball.Â
Fowlerâs report adds fuel to speculation that Grizzardâs time in Tampa could end after just one season.Â
This would continue a frustrating trend for the franchise.Â
If the Bucs move on, Grizzard would become the fifth offensive coordinator the team has employed in five years.
While Grizzard is widely respected internally and credited for helping former coordinator Liam Coen with game-planning last season, results ultimately drive decisions in the NFL.Â
Many insiders believe Bowles is relatively safe for now.
That has made replacing his offensive coordinator the clearest path to appeasing ownership and fans after another frustrating season.
The idea of a âone-and-doneâ tenure may sound harsh, but league sources increasingly view it as a realistic outcome.Â
Midseason Collapse Defines Bucs Offensive Struggles
The numbers behind Tampa Bayâs collapse are difficult to ignore.
After starting the season 6-2, the Buccaneers have gone 1â7 over their last eight games , with the offense shouldering a lot of the blame.
Since Week 7, Tampa Bay ranks 26th in offensive EPA per play (-0.089), 22nd in yards per game, and 21st in red-zone efficiency.Â
Quarterback Baker Mayfield has also regressed during that stretch, something Fowler noted directly in his report.Â
Injuries along the offensive line, including stretches with third-string guards and games without star Tristan Wirfs have played a role.Â
But at the end of the day, the drop-off in production has been hard to ignore.
The running game has been nonexistant, timing in the passing game has gone away, and turnovers have plagued them.Â
The contrast with former coordinator Liam Coen only sharpens the frustration.Â
Now with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Coen has rebuilt a 4-13 team in 2024 into one of the best teams in the AFC.Â
The Jaguars have become one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL while the Bucs offense continues to falter without Coen.Â
Itâs hard not to wonder how much the Bucs miss that continuity as they face yet another potential reset.Â
Saturdayâs game against Carolina may not just determine Tampa Bayâs playoff fate.Â
It could also decide whether Josh Grizzard gets another year or becomes the latest offensive coordinator to exit a franchise still searching for stability.
