Bears RT Darnell Wright catches illness, listed as questionable for 49ers game

The flu bug going around the Bears claimed right tackle Darnell Wright — at least for now.

The starting right tackle did not travel with the team to the Bay Area on Saturday and is considered questionable for Sunday night’s game against the 49ers. He could still fly out in time to play.

The team had four other players land on the injury report this week because of illness: cornerbacks Nick McCloud and Josh Blackwell, receiver Devin Duvernay and linebacker D’Marco Jackson. McCloud was ruled out Friday.

Rookie guard Luke Newman was activated from injured reserve Saturday. To make room for him on the 53-man roster, the Bears waived defensive tackle Jonathan Ford. The Bears also promoted receiver JP Richardson and cornerback Dallis Flowers from the practice squad.

The Bears have been dealing with illness all week.

“We’re washing our hands, we’re being very diligent, guys have masks on, doing what you can,” coach Ben Johnson said Friday. “Whoever’s available here on game day, we will look to win with. If a guy can’t go, then we will be ready.”
