The New York Jets 2025 season has gone off the rails, but there is a silver lining.
Gang Green announced on social media that they boast multiple Pro Bowl alternates this season.
Wide receiver and kick return specialist Isaiah Williams was named the second alternate “as the return specialist for the AFC.” While running back Breece Hall was named the fourth alternate among the AFC’s tailbacks.
“Both Jets could be elevated into the middle of the league’s all-star activities in the coming weeks. Last year, 25 players competed in the 2025 Pro Bowl Games who were not named to the initial roster, including 11 who participated in Super Bowl LIX,” Jets senior reporter Randy Lange wrote in a press release.
Alternates Aside, Jets Snubbed From Pro Bowl Games
Only three teams in the NFL were completely held out of the Pro Bowl. That group includes the Jets, the New Orleans Saints, and the Minnesota Vikings.
The other 29 teams in the NFL had at least one Pro Bowler make the cut.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed that this is the second straight year that the Jets were “shut out” from the Pro Bowl.
The Main Jets Snub Argument Is Built Around Their Special Teams Unit
When you’re 3-12 and have one of the worst records in football, it’s hard to complain about your lack of Pro Bowl representation.
This is a popularity award after all.
However, if a case could be made for anyone on the Jets, it would be their special teams unit.
Williams’ making it as a second alternate is well deserved.
“After being released by the Jets following the Week 4 Monday night game at Miami, [he] was re-signed to their practice squad, then experienced a ‘return’ to the active roster and a rapid rise in the league’s kick return circles. The second-year pro had two punt-return touchdowns, in Week 10 against Cleveland and Week 14 vs. Miami, plus an 83-yard kickoff return vs. Atlanta, all in a five-week span. Through Week 16, Williams is second in the NFL among qualifying kickoff returners with 30.2 yards/return and sixth among qualifying punt returners with a 14.1-yard average,” Lange wrote in a press release.
The snub list includes placekicker Nick Folk, punter Austin McNamara, and perhaps some of their gunners like Qwan’tez Stiggers.
Wait… Breece Hall?!
The most surprising name that appeared was Hall. Even as a fourth alternative, that selection was curious.
The former Iowa State product is 14th in the league in rushing yards (954). In the AFC, Hall ranks sixth in that same category.
This season, Hall has only three 100+ yard rushing games. Hall hasn’t had one since October 26, when he accomplished that feat against the Cincinnati Bengals. That was two months ago.
Over the last six games, Hall hasn’t rushed for more than 68 rushing yards. His yards per carry average across those games is: 4.1, 2.8, 3.6, 3.1, 1.9, and 3.4, respectively.
In the middle of the season, Hall was on pace for over 1,200 rushing yards. If you told me that version was Pro Bowl-bound, you could sell me on that.
Now the stat that Hall is chasing is 1,000 rushing yards. The talented fourth-year back hasn’t accomplished that feat in his NFL career. He is only 46 rushing yards away from achieving that goal and he has two games to do it.
