The criticism of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts always seems to be so much louder than the praise. Which is pretty incredible considering he’s led his team to 2 Super Bowls in the last 3 seasons and he’s played arguably the 2 greatest games of his career in those games.
That includes a Super Bowl MVP in a 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in February.
While every season seems to have people jumping over themselves to pile on Hurts, we don’t get many glimpses into the extenuating circumstances when he does struggle. That’s because one thing you’ll never hear from Hurts is an excuse.
For example, last season, when wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith complained about not getting the ball enough during a 10-game winning streak, we later found out Hurts had been playing with a broken finger on his non-throwing hand.
This season, it’s been more of the same. Brown complains. The media piles on Hurts. The Eagles keep winning games.
After a 29-18 win over the Washington Commanders in Week 16, Hurts now owns another unique, rare piece of NFL history.
Hurts First in NFL History to Pull Off Playoff Feat
The win over the Commanders clinched the NFC East Division title for the Eagles — the first team to win back to back NFC East titles in 2 decades — and put them in the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.
The Eagles have made the playoffs in each of Hurts’ 5 years as the full-time starter and done so with a revolving door of offensive coordinators, including first year offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo in 2025.
“Jalen Hurts is the first QB in NFL History to clinch 4 consecutive playoff berths with 4 different offensive coordinators,” Eagles Fan Central wrote on X.
Hurts Has to Adjust to Offense Every Year
Patullo was promoted after spending the last 4 seasons as pass game coordinator and associate head coach and is the fifth offensive coordinator Hurts has played for since he was drafted in 2020.
“So, Jalen Hurts gets another coach,” ESPN’s Mina Kimes said. “Kellen Moore is out. And they went internal with Kevin Patullo … and there’s pluses and minuses on his resume. He’s worked with Hurts a long time. He’s been their pass game coordinator. He knows Hurts … he knows their wide receivers. He knows what they’re good at. He knows how to use them. But he’s also (head coach) Nick Sirianni’s dude. And, you know, I think there was some benefit from going outside the building.”
Hurts has played so well that 2 of his offensive coordinators have been hired as NFL head coaches after their year with the $255 million quarterback; Moore was hired by the New Orleans Saints after winning the Super Bowl and Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen was hired after working with Hurts in 2022 and winning the NFC Championship.
Another thing Hurts makes sure he does every year that seems important to Eagles fans? He’s continually made his team better than their most hated rival, the Dallas Cowboys.
“Dak Prescott hasn’t won a playoff game since 1/16/23 — 1,070 days ago!” PolyMarket Sports’ Tom Stakes wrote on X. “Since that day, Jalen Hurts has won 6 playoff games, including a Super Bowl.”
