OAKLAND — An unknown suspect fatally shot a 32-year-old man in East Oakland on Friday night, authorities said.
The shooting, which activated a gunshot detection system alert, happened outside at about 9:20 p.m. in the 2800 block of 35th Avenue.
The wounded man was taken to a hospital where he later died, according to authorities. Police have not yet released a motive for the shooting or provided any information about the suspect. Police also have not yet released the victim’s name or his city of residence.
The killing is the 66th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year and the second in less than 24 hours. A 28-year-old man was fatally shot and another man was wounded about 3:15 a.m. Friday in the 1600 block of Solano Way in the San Antonio district, according to officials.
Last year at this time, police had investigated 78 homicides in the city.
