Chipotle Mexican Grill creates a high-protein menu

Chipotle Mexican Grill is the latest restaurant chain to jump on the high-protein bandwagon, launching a new protein menu two days before Christmas.

Six items ranging from 15 grams to a whopping 81 grams of protein will debut on Tuesday, Dec. 23.

The items will be available for dine-in or can be ordered online, according to a news release from the Newport Beach-based company.

All of the items feature Adobo Chicken. Other ingredients vary by item but include white and brown rice, black beans and fajita veggies.

A High Protein Cup with Adobo Chicken is nothing but 4 ounces of meat.

There’s a taco, a salad, a burrito and two bowls. One of them is also high fiber, 14 grams, which some forecasters have predicted will be the next big thing in 2026.

There’s more to come. On Jan. 5, Chipotle will introduce three collaborations with fans that can be ordered through the Chipotle app or online.

The biggest one will be New York Knicks guard Josh Hart’s High Protein Burrito with 1,340 calories, 95 grams of protein and 14 grams of fiber.

A body’s need for protein varies by age, sex, weight and your level of activity. According to the Mayo Clinic, an average sedentary adult should consume 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight a day, or about 60 grams.

Athletes and older people generally need more protein to maintain muscle mass.

Protein is one of the highest-profile dining trends of 2025, getting a big boost from Starbucks in late September.

In grocery stores, items such as Fairlife’s Core Power shakes saw big increases in sales.
