Blue Jays Get Major Kyle Tucker Update Amid Dodgers Interest

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays remain among the teams connected to free agent hitter Kyle Tucker, who has not yet settled on his next step after playing the 2025 MLB season with the Chicago Cubs.

Despite publicly minimizing any plans for major spending, Los Angeles still made a push for the top closer on the market in former New York Mets standout Edwin Diaz. As the defending World Series champions, the Dodgers do not appear finished shaping the roster.

On Dec. 9, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Katie Woo reported the club is open to a shorter-term agreement for Tucker. Citing a person briefed on the Dodgers’ plans, the report noted that Los Angeles would consider a three- to four-year deal with a high average annual value.

With Tucker still on the market, Blue Jays insider Keegan Matheson shared the latest regarding the free-agent hitter during a Dec. 17 appearance on Toronto Sports Rush.

“I thought Tucker would be quicker than Bichette,” Matheson said. “I thought he would move quicker in the market, maybe even at the winter meetings, but sounds like he’s going to still be meeting with teams… I’m curious if he is going to end up with that $400 million-plus.

“I don’t know at this point because teams, like the Yankees are not talking like big-time teams right now. The Dodgers can get involved, but if the Dodgers went for Tucker, it would be more of a here’s two or three years with a crazy average annual value, but not a 10-year deal.”

Blue Jays Insider Reveals Likely Kyle Tucker Signing Timeline

With 2025 nearing its end and the MLB Winter Meetings approaching, the question many will be asking is: When will Tucker sign with a team? Matheson shared his insight into a potential timeline and where the Blue Jays stand in this free-agent race.

“Some of the big players in Major League Baseball are out on Kyle Tucker, or at least further away from him than I thought they would be,” Matheson added. “That leaves the Blue Jays as the easy team to call a front-runner, even though there’s no such thing as a front-runner. But they’ve got to be in there, man. I expect this to be a late December, early January thing. This won’t stretch. This won’t be something that pushes spring training, I don’t think.”

Will Kyle Tucker End Up in LA or New York?

With many waiting for the Tucker domino to fall, MLB Network’s insider Jon Morosi shared the latest on the outfielder.

“Kyle Tucker is the man that so many people in the industry are focused on,” Morosi said during a Dec. 15 appearance on MLB Network. “What we know at this hour is the following. He has made a visit to the Blue Jays spring training complex in Dunedin, Florida, which is very near to where he grew up and where he lives. We do believe the Jays will be in there until the end. What we don’t know is exactly who else will be in there as the finalists making the last pitches for Kyle Tucker.

“Two teams right now stand out to me? The Dodgers and the Yankees. Will Tucker’s representation circle back around with those two large market teams, two of the great Titans of our industry, to see if they will meet or exceed whatever numbers have been mentioned by the Blue Jays’ side.”
