Socks, the missing ‘Coors Field Cat,’ spotted with a new friend

Two days after news spread about the disappearance of Socks, the beloved Coors Field cat that calls the downtown stadium home, Denverites spotted her safe and sound — and in the company of a new friend.

Socks, a black-and-white stray, disappeared a month ago after more than a decade of regular sightings.

While her food bowl was being licked clean, volunteers who keep her kibble stocked never saw her in the area. Her care team suspected raccoons were stealing Socks’ meals.

But two days after The Denver Post and other outlets reported about her disappearance, Socks’ caretakers posted that she was seen alive and well in her feeding area early Monday morning “by two very reputable sources.”

“Also, it appears Socks now has a cat buddy!” her care team wrote on an X account dedicated to the feline. “Pretty much confirmed aggressive raccoons are what have scared her away for the past month.”

There was no word on whether the raccoons are also to blame for recent challenges experienced by Coors Field’s other residents, the Colorado Rockies.
