Browns Coach Explains Shedeur Sanders Having Wrong Playcalling Wristband

The Cleveland Browns suffered a 31-3 road loss to the Chicago Bears as the offense struggled throughout the game.

However, in the first quarter, the Browns didn’t have a first down and were down 14-0 early. Sideline reporter Allison Williams revealed that Sanders needed a new wristband to open the second quarter.

Following the blowout loss, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Sanders had the wrong wristband on and called it a miscommunication.

“Yeah, there was a miscommunication early,” Stefanski said postgame. “I don’t know that the wristband got something on it or whatever it was.”

Sanders, meanwhile, didn’t open up too much on the situation and said the card fell out on the sideline.

“The card just fell out. It just fell out on the sideline,” Sanders said postgame. “That was it.”

The Browns’ rookie quarterback finished the game going 18-of-35 for 177 yards and three interceptions in the blowout loss. It was a disappointing performance from Sanders, who will remain the Browns’ starting quarterback.

Stefanski Confirms Sanders Will Remain the Browns Starter

Although Sanders struggled against the Bears, Stefanski confirmed he will remain the starter.

Stefanski knows there’s a lot to improve on from Sanders’ start, and they will look at it this week to make sure he’s better.

“Yes,” Stefanski responded.

Sanders had mixed results on Sunday, although his one interception when he threw to Jerry Jeudy in the endzone, likely should have been caught by Jeudy for a touchdown, which would have changed his stat line.

So, Stefanski has confidence that Sanders will be better next week, and it’s another learning moment for Sanders.

“I’m obviously thinking about just this game and those type of things,” Stefanski said. “He’s a young player that’s making progress, like we’ve talked about all week. I see it in games. I get to see it in practice. There’s going to be ups and downs to young players, particularly the quarterback position. So we’ll learn from it, and we’ll be better next week.”

Sanders Responds to Potential Demotion

Following Sanders’ lackluster game, some fans wondered if Cleveland would go back to Dillon Gabriel.

Yet, after Sunday’s game, Sanders said he isn’t thinking about any demotion as he’s just playing his game.

“You know what league we’re in?” Sanders said. “You can lose your job at any point in time. So you don’t play with fear. When you live and play in fear, then you’ll never be yourself. So I don’t play or live in fear.

“Whatever situation I’m in, I’m in. Whatever happens, it happens. But I live each moment and try to live each day in the fullest. So never live and worry or fear.”

Sanders, meanwhile, expects to be better after a tough game against the Bears. He knows that’s a tough defense and something he’ll learn from.

“They had a great defensive scheme, and I enjoyed playing against them,” Sanders said. “I enjoyed playing in that because it was definitely a little challenge, so I look forward to learning from that and look forward to understanding exactly how things were on film.”

The Browns will host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
