Shedeur Sanders has nothing but positive things to say about Tennessee Titans star defensive tackle Jefferey Simmons.
Sanders made his third-straight start on Sunday against the Titans, and Simmons, who’s one of the top defensive players in the league, had nothing but praise for Simmons.
Although the Cleveland Browns lost to the Titans on Sunday, Simmons praised Sanders. He said Sanders has a bright future in this league, and the Browns’ rookie quarterback responded to Simmons’ comments.
“Well, Jeffery Simmons, he’s a great player,” Sanders said on Wednesday. “Of course, he brings that energy in the game and I respect him. Of course, going into the game, even after the game and everything, that he’s the competitor he is and I was just excited to have that experience, to be able to play against him, one of the best.”
It’s a nice comment from Sanders, who was grateful for Simmons’ words, especially from a star player like him.
Sanders had a career game against the Titans, as he went 23-of-42 for 364 yards, 3 touchdowns, and an interception. He also rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown in the Browns’ loss, but it was a stellar game from the rookie.
Simmons Heaps Praise on Sanders
After the Titans defeated the Browns last week, Simmons praised Sanders.
The star pass rusher said the Browns are Sanders’ team now, and he will be a star in this league for a long time.
“That’s his team now. He’s gonna be a star in this league. He’s already a star. You enjoy playing against guys like that, that’s going to give you a little smack talk back, but you gotta let him know he’s still a rookie. It was fun to be able to smack-talk but still respect the game,” Simmons said.
If Sanders continues to play as he did on Sunday against the Titans, he could very well be the long-term answer at quarterback for the Browns.
Sanders will also get the chance to prove it as Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed the rookie will remain the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.
Sanders Will Remain Browns Starting QB
After Sanders’ best game of his career, Stefanski confirmed he will remain the starter for the rest of the season.
Stefanski made the decision on Monday and said Sanders has been working hard and playing well, which led to the decision.
“I think all along, as you know, with our quarterbacks and our young players, you’re always making sure that you’re making the right decisions for our guys,” Stefanski said on Monday. “And I think he has constantly and consistently gotten better in each one of these games and how he’s approached his game.
“He’s been working very hard, so I feel good about where his development is heading. He knows there are always going to be plays that he can be better and those types of things, but he’s very intentional about getting better each and every game he’s out there.”
Dillon Gabriel will remain the backup to Sanders on Sunday when the Browns go on the road to play the Chicago Bears.
