Redwood City: Man allegedly fatally shot wife before shooting himself Sunday

REDWOOD CITY — A man allegedly shot and killed his wife Sunday before then shooting and wounding himself, authorities said.

Police responded just after midnight Sunday to a report of a suspicious vehicle on the 1300 block of Seaport Boulevard reported by a security guard, according to a press release from the Redwood City Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found a man in the driver’s seat and a woman in the passenger seat of the vehicle, each with a gunshot wound to the head and unconscious, authorities said. Medical aid was provided by the responding officers while waiting for emergency medical personnel.

Emergency responders pronounced the woman deceased at the scene, authorities added. The man was taken to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition Monday morning.

Police found in their investigation that the man and woman were married and “experiencing marital difficulties.” Authorities believe, based on evidence found at the scene, that the man fatally shot his wife before attempting to fatally shoot himself.

Investigators also located a firearm at the scene, authorities added.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Redwood City Police Department at 650-780-7100.
