USPS driver cited for fatal crash in Des Plaines

A United States Postal Service driver is facing a citation after he allegedly caused a fatal crash in suburban Des Plaines Sunday.

Des Plaines police responded to a crash in the 1700 block of Mannheim Road around 10 a.m., police said.

Leonard Moore, 48, was driving southbound in a USPS truck when he drifted into oncoming traffic. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a northbound sedan, he told police.

Laurie Jensen, 65, of Mount Prospect, was driving a sedan.

Moore and Jensen were both transported to a nearby hospital, where Jensen was pronounced dead.

Moore was issued a citation for improper lane usage. He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 16.

The USPS didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
