An aviation enthusiast has described strange lights and unusual fighter jet flights at the US Air Force’s biggest site in the UK amid reports of widespread drone activity.
The YouTuber, who has been live-streaming from outside RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk over the past week, spoke of ‘indescribable’ scenes he has never witnessed at the base before.
Small unmanned aerial systems (UASs) have been reported by the USAF over and in the vicinity of the military significant ‘Liberty Wing’ facility as well as fellow RAF bases Mildenhall, also in Suffolk, nearby Feltwell in Norfolk and Fairford in Wiltshire.
Around 60 RAF personnel are understood to have been assigned to help solve the mystery, which began on November 20 when the first objects were detected, possibly as part of an inter-linked ‘swarm’.
All of the bases are home to American forces, with Lakenheath due to host US nuclear warheads as the threat from Russia increases.
The deployment would be the first time in more than 15 years the ally has deployed the weapons on British soil.
The enthusiast said: ‘In one of my live streams last week I saw some lights that didn’t seem to be moving around very much, it seemed really odd that they were there.

‘I laughed and said, “look, there’s a UFO”. Then the next day, on the Wednesday, the reports came out about the drones.
‘I went back on Thursday night and a lot of planes were coming in, they were put on hold and were flying strange patterns above us and I heard on people’s radios nearby that there were drones again.
‘There were lots of lights again on Monday night which I didn’t recognise.
‘I’m outside the base all the time, I get on with the personnel and I take my son who likes seeing the planes, but I’ve never seen anything like it.
‘At the moment there’s lots of speculation but no answers, who knows what they are.’
The enthusiast, who asked to be known by the name Liberty, told Metro that USAF personnel have been in touch and viewed his livestreams without giving feedback.
In one of his videos he can be heard saying ‘no one knows what that is’ as he films a light on its own which seems to be distinct from the brighter images of the fighter jets.
