High school football: Levi’s Stadium matchups are set

High school football is returning to Levi’s Stadium next month with an all-Santa Clara Valley Athletic League doubleheader.

Now called the Levi’s Stadium High School Football Series, the matchups for the Sept. 21 games are Saratoga against Santa Clara at 5 p.m. and Los Gatos against Homestead at 7:30.

Santa Clara will be making its third trip to Levi’s. The Bruins lost to Wilcox 67-20 in 2014 and to Gunderson 19-14 two years later.

The game against Saratoga, which was scheduled to be a road game for Santa Clara, will count in the SCVAL El Camino Division standings. The Los Gatos-Homestead matchup, originally scheduled for Los Gatos, is an SCVAL De Anza Division game.

Los Gatos is unbeaten in nine games against Homestead since 2004. Saratoga is 3-1 against Santa Clara since 2012, including a 51-20 win in 2016 and a 41-35 victory in 2014.

The high school series is part of the 49ers’ efforts to support youth and high school football.

49ers PREP started a free co-ed flag football program that attracted some 500 Bay Area kids in its first year.
