Girls basketball rankings: Bay Area Preps HQ Top 25

It’s unanimous. Archbishop Mitty is the undisputed No. 1 girls basketball team according to the Bay Area Preps HQ squad.

Pinewood, the back-to-back NorCal Open Division champion in the California Interscholastic Federation playoffs, suffered its first loss of the season — 46-45 — over the weekend at Menlo School in Atherton.

Menlo, last year’s CIF Division II champion, ended a 66-game win streak by Pinewood in the West Bay Athletic League.

The only team to beat Menlo so far? Mitty — 74-37 on Dec. 11.

Mitty also bested No. 4 Bishop O’Dowd last week, while Salesian suffered a hiccup over the weekend but managed to stay just ahead of St. Joseph Notre Dame.

Votes this week were cast by Bay Area Preps HQ’s Darren Sabedra, Vytas Mazeika, Phil Jensen and Mike Lefkow, with first-place votes worth 25 points, second-place 24 points and on down the line.
