Letter: President has no constrain on who gets clearances

President has no constrain
on who gets clearances

Re: “Trump granted high security clearance without vetting” (Letter to Editor, Eastbaytimes.com, Feb. 7):

I read with interest Mr. Martinez’s letter about White House clearances and vetting for a security clearance because my legal practice focuses on just that.

As a citizen concerned about our country, I too am concerned about how White House folks are vetted, but the problem is that the entire clearance process is pretty much a creation of the White House, beginning with Executive Order 10865 issued in 1960.

While certainly subject to political constraints, there is no evident legal constrain on our elected president doing whatever he (or she) wishes concerning who gets a clearance and who gets to know what.
