It feels like every other day a new pair of trainers lands on the market to all sorts of freak fitness fanfare.
It truly is the era of the trainer; consider heels and various other vehicles of discomfort mere dust gatherers in our closets, as flatter modes of transportation shine. And there’s one shoe launch this week causing all sorts of hullabaloo in the Metro office as parkrun releases its very own runner with Brooks.
We have a feeling you’re about to see this bright orange kick kicking about everywhere.
The shoe is a fresh take on the crowd-pleasing Brooks Ghost 16, decked out in parkrun colours and branding (and a cheeky little nod to its first event in Bushy Park 20 years ago this week).
If you walk, run, meander, sprint, jog (you get the picture) you’ll know the importance of a good pair of shoes, where function and comfort overpower the aesthetics and you sod what may look cool in favour of what will get you through the day blister-free and without an emergency call to your podiatrist or physio.
As parkrun’s media partner, a few of us at Metro were lucky enough to score an early try of the trainers and see whether the hype truly is real. Lucky for you, they’re available now for £135 from Sportsshoes.com – although you’ll need to be quick as there were only 8,000 pairs made of the limited edition shoe.

But what did we think about it?
Deborah Arthurs, Editor-in-Chief: Running and leisure
‘Despite being a fairly keen runner, I have never invested in a bespoke running shoe. Instead, to my shame, I just buy whatever I find in the sales that matches my workout gear, without really considering gait or performance. I also wear the same trainers for walking to work as I do for running, and I put in a lot of mileage, so I imagine I’m not replacing them regularly enough.
‘But as I get older, I’m not sure I can get away with it. To my shock, after having a neutral gait for my whole life, I’ve recently discovered by looking at the wear on the soles of my trainers that I now supinate (my foot rolls outwards when I walk/run).
