The 2024 Eurovision Song Contest is officially set to kick off in Malmö, Sweden.

The contest is being held in the Nordic country after singer Loreen secured the win for her country in Liverpool last year with her song Tattoo.

More than 100,000 fans are expected to flock to the city, while more than 160 million are expected to be watching on from home.

Flying the flag for the UK is Olly Alexander, who recently opened up about the ‘nerves’ that he’s feeling ahead of his peroformances.

From May 7-11, another 36 acts will be taking to the stage alongside him too.

The 2024 Eurovision grand final will take place on Saturday, May 11, with the semi-finals being held on Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9.

A total of 37 countries will be competing in this year’s contest, six of which automatically qualified for the final.

These six are last year’s winners Sweden, along with the ‘Big 5’ of France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.

The other countries will compete in the semi-finals for a place in the grand final, with the top 10 from each semi-final qualifying.

This year will also mark Luxembourg returning to the contest 31 years after its last participation in 1993, while Romania has opted not to participate.

Where is Eurovision 2024 being held?

The event will be hosted in the city of Malmö, which won the bidding against Stockholm and Gothenburg.

It will be the seventh time Sweden has hosted the contest, having previously done so in 1975, 1985, 1992, 2000, 2013, and 2016.

The main venue is the 15,500-seat Malmö Arena.

Who are this year’s Eurovision presenters?

The three live Eurovision shows will be presented by Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman, with the former having previously taken on the role in 2013 and 2016.
