Thomas Tuchel says ‘everybody wanted’ Harry Kane and it is a ‘huge deal’ that Bayern Munich managed to sign him from Tottenham this summer.
The 30-year-old joined the German giants for an initial fee of £86m late in the summer transfer window, ending his career-long stay with Spurs.
It has been a predictably fruitful start to life in the Bundesliga for Kane, scoring four goals in his opening four games, and now Bayern begin their Champions League campaign against Manchester United on Wednesday night.
Speaking ahead of that huge clash, Bayern boss Tuchel was asked if it was surprising that the likes of Manchester United did not make a firmer move for Kane when he was obviously available for transfer as he ended up moving.
The German says that every club wanting a new centre forward was interested in Kane, he’s just glad the England captain chose Bayern.
‘It’s a big thing . We took the skipper of England out of England out of the Premier League. It’s a huge deal, a big transfer and we’re very happy,’ Tuchel told a press conference.
‘I think anyone who’s looking for a number 9 would have been happy to have Harry in the team, anyone in Europe.

‘Because he makes your team better and gives you what you expect from a number 9. Personality, goals, quality, he can drop deep on a number 10 position, turn and use the speed of the players around him, he can arrive in the box with the right timing, he has excellent finishing, he’s a good penalty taker.
‘Everybody wanted to have him. I am not sure about what was going on in other clubs, but I am more than happy that finally he took the decision to join us and make us better.’
Asked if he has been surprised by anything Kane has brought to the Bayern squad, Tuchel said he has not, getting exactly the character, and obviously the goal-scoring that he expected.
‘We got what we wanted and what we expected,’ he said. ‘We were following him for years closely. He’s a nice guy, a calm guy and everything’s good.’
