Thomas Tuchel is in talks to remain as Bayern Munich manager, despite his departure at the end of the season being announced in February.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen confirmed in February that Tuchel and Bayern agreed to ‘mutually end our collaboration’ at the end of the season after a disappointing campaign to that point.

The former Chelsea manager has indeed remained in charge and Bayern will end their season without any silverware after falling a long way behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and narrowly losing out to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.

Despite the disappointing campaign, Tuchel has remained popular with Bayern fans and has the support of key players in the squad, including Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Harry Kane.

Bayern have also struggled badly to find a replacement for him, with little progress made in making an appointment after failing with their first choice, Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso.

The Times now reports that Tuchel and Bayern could make a U-turn on their original decision and he could stay on for next season.

Tuchel’s agent, Olaf Meinking has been pictured in a meeting with Dreesen, sporting director Christoph Freund and board member Max Eberl, with talks ongoing.

With Tuchel expected to leave Bayern this summer he had become one of the favourites to replace Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager.

The Dutchman’s future is hanging in the balance after a bad season has left them eighth in the Premier League table with two games to play.

He has the chance to end the campaign on a high, with the FA Cup final to come against Manchester City, but that also has the potential to be a disastrous final outing.

What was expected to be Tuchel’s final game in charge of Bayern comes at Hoffenheim on Saturday in the Bundesliga, with just a point confirming that they will finish second behind Leverkusen.
