Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira has returned to fitness ahead of Porto’s Europa League showdown against Manchester United.

Viera, 24, joined the Gunners from Porto in a £32m deal in the summer of 2022 but only showed flashes of brilliance in his first two seasons at the club.

With injuries also stunting his development in north London, the Portugal Under-21 international returned to Porto this summer on a season-long loan deal.

A muscle injury delayed his start to the campaign however, missing three games for Porto before returning to the squad on Sunday.

The Portuguese giants cruised to a 4-0 win over Arouca with Vieira coming off the bench for the final 20 minutes.

‘I’m very happy, to be honest,’ Vieira said, O Jogo report. ‘I came back with the goal of being able to play, to be able to play. I feel very good here, this is my home, with the Porto fans.

‘This is where it all started and now I just have to enjoy it and be happy. I’m going to work hard.’

United head to Portugal in desperate need of a win following Sunday’s dreadful defeat at Tottenham.

Erik ten Hag is set to remain in charge this week for Thursday’s game and the visit to Aston Villa on Sunday but with pressure building on the Dutchman, he needs to produce a swift response.

Porto meanwhile have won six of their opening seven games this season and sit second in the Primeira Liga behind Sporting. They did however suffer disappointment in their opening match of the Europa League, beaten 3-2 by Norwegian side FK Bodo/Glimt.

Sunday’s 4-0 win got Porto back on track but Vieira expects a difficult test against United.

‘We are taking it step by step, game by game,’ he said.

‘We will enjoy this victory now, but already think about the next game, which is a different competition and will also be difficult.’
