To say Elaine Peacock (Harriett Thorpe) and George Knight’s (Colin Salmon) haven’t had the smoothest of engagements would be putting it mildly – something he looks to rectify in next week’s EastEnders.

Forthcoming scenes will see him suggest setting a date for their wedding, but not before his ex-wife Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) leans on him for support once again.

The week in Walford begins with Cindy determined to get to the bottom of what a secretive Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) is up to, amid her and son Peter’s (Thomas Law) suspicions he is lying to them about a leadership course he’s supposedly on in Manchester.

Convinced he’s having an affair, Cindy forces George to drive her to a mysterious address and a confrontation ensues.

Later in the week, as events of the last few days spin Cindy out, Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) gives George some food for thought as they cross paths at the laundrette.

Knowing how much Elaine was there for her in the wake of her sexual assault, she encourages George to show his fiancée just how much he loves her.

He then surprises Elaine by telling her they should start thinking about a date for their wedding.

What all the family don’t know, however, is that Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) has been rushed to hospital after her drink is spiked during a night out at Peggy’s.

Will Anna’s ordeal bring her parents closer together once more? And will George and Elaine ever really make it down the aisle?

EastEnders airs these scenes from Monday 15 July at 7.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
