Hollywood star and action movie legend Danny Trejo surprised fans when he revealed that his favourite video game ever is a cute life simulator.

Danny Trejo is no stranger to video games, having played a role in Far Cry 6, Call Of Duty: Black Ops, and, more recently, the part of Dwight Mendez in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

For most actors that doesn’t imply any special interest in games but speaking on social media the Hollywood hardman has revealed he is a gamer, but that his favourite title is not at all what you’d think.

Posting a photo of himself on Twitter, holding a Nintendo Switch, Trejo revealed that his favourite game ever is no less than Nintendo’s super cute Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Trejo even managed to take the photo while villager K.K. Slider, could be seen saying: ‘Yeah… An island paradise with your best pals sounds pretty groovy to me.’

The tweet has been liked 255,000 times, but Trejo’s love for Animal Crossing has been known for a while.

Like many people that got into the game during lockdown, he first became a fan in 2020, when his son introduced him to the highly successful life simulator.

According to The Washington Post, Trejo isn’t interested in shooters – he does that in movies, he said – but likes more relaxing games, saying that he couldn’t put the game down once he got started.

Trejo also had his own video diary on Gary Whitta’s YouTube show, called Animal Talking, where the actor showed fans his island (including his taco stand) and what he likes to do in the game.

It’s an unexpected favourite, for someone that has starred in such violent movies as Desperado, Machete, and Heat but clearly he’s not embarrassed about enjoying something so laidback and cosy.

Nintendo suddenly ended support for New Horizons in late 2021, following the launch of the Happy Home Paradise DLC expansion and have not commented on the future of the franchise since.

New Horizons sold far more than any previous entry, so it will definitely be returning, perhaps much earlier in the Switch 2’s lifespan than would otherwise have been expected – which would explain why support was suddenly pulled for the game when it was still selling well.
