CD Projekt’s plan to have a Game of the Year Edition of Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty includes physical editions for PS5 and Xbox.
As popular as digital downloads may be, they do have one major drawback: it’s not as much fun to unwrap a download code on Christmas Day as it is an actual box.
It’s therefore no coincidence that the rumoured release date for Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is December 5, even though there’s been no official announcement so far. In fact, it’s only a surprise that there wasn’t some kind of more expensive collector’s edition as well.
CD Projekt did previously say they were planning a Game of the Year style version of the game, including DLC Phantom Liberty, so in that sense the reveal of the box art is long overdue.
The contents of the Ultimate Edition only mention Phantom Liberty, so while it’s possible that the new release does feature some minor new DLC there’s nothing mentioned on the cover.
Although not confirmed, previous leaks claim that the Ultimate Edition will be out on December 5 and cost $59.99 in the US. That will likely translate to £60 in the UK.

If that date is accurate then an official announcement is probably only days away, which is no doubt how the box art managed to leak in the first place.
Although a disaster upon its original release in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077’s reputation has slowly improved over the years, as more and more patches have been released.
The game’s still not exactly bug free but its rating on Steam is now Very Positive and the DLC Phantom Liberty has been very well received and is nominated in multiple categories at this year’s The Game Awards.

More importantly for CD Projekt, the game has now sold over 25 million copies and Netflix anime Edgerunners has been such a hit that a live action project is also planned – although it’s so far unclear if it’ll be a show or a movie.
Phantom Liberty was always intended to be the one and only story expansion for the game, with CD Projekt now keen to move on with a sequel. That’s not going to arrive anytime soon though and it’ll probably at least two or three years before you see or hear anything about it… …read more
