Fans hoped that Abba would reunite for a performance on the Eurovision stage in 2024, but Benny Andersson has made it abundantly clear that they have zero plans.

It was hoped by many that the foursome would get back together after Sweden’s entry Loreen won the 2023 contest meaning the contest will take place in a major Swedish city.

The foursome won the musical competition in 1974 with Waterloo for Sweden making next year their 50th anniversary which all seemed pretty perfect, but it’s a no-go.

‘I don’t want to,’ Benny, 76, stated. You can’t really argue with that!

While speaking on BBC Newsnight he added: ‘And if I don’t want to, the others won’t. It’s the same for all four of us – [if] someone says “no,” it’s a no.’

Björn Ulvaeus, 78, added: ‘We can celebrate 50 years of ABBA without us being on stage.’

They also shot down the idea that they might compose the host nation’s entry.

Guesses as to how they will feature have already begun with everything from a VT message to avatars and previous contestants performing a medley of their songs. We’re not sure which option we’d put our money, money, money on.

Abba originally split up in the early 1980s after a series of internationally successful singles and albums following rifts within the group.

After briefly reuniting in recent years to record a comeback album, 2021’s Voyage, Abba also announced a unique live event at the specially built Abba Arena.

The live event, which features Abba avatars (‘Abba-tars’) instead of members Benny, Björn, Agnetha Fältskog, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, debuted in May 2022. The booking for the popular show has now been extended until May 2024.

The band are also considering replicas of the structure in North America and Asia.

Speaking of its success Björn said: ‘If you build the right machine, and you build it well, then it exceeds the sum of its parts.

‘The soul of the songs comes alive. And that soul isn’t just down to what you see on stage. It’s the stories and memories that come with it. Both yours and ours.’
