Ben Affleck has revealed he is part of a star-studded Wordle league with fellow Hollywood icons Matt Damon and Bradley Cooper.

Back in 2021, the world was gripped by the viral spread of Wordle, which sees players try and guess a daily five-letter word in six attempts.

The game, which was bought by the New York Times in 2022, saw many of us get competitive with our friends, sharing our scores online and trying to outdo each other by guessing it in the least attempts – and it turns out celebrities are no different.

Affleck, 50, has revealed that his Wordle league, which also contains Ozark star Jason Bateman, can become fiercely competitive.

‘There’s a lot of mockery and derision. So I’m in training,’ he told The Hollywood Reporter.

The Deep Water actor explained that each day, members of the group play Octordle, a version of the game where you must solve eight different words, and Quordle, where you must guess eight words, as well as the original game.

‘You have to do the Wordle, the Quordle, and the Octordle, and add up your score, and then whoever gets the lowest score wins for the day,’ he explained.

Affleck further joked that the first rule of Wordle is you don’t talk about Wordle – that is, unless you guess the word within three guesses.

‘I used to do the crossword compulsively in the mornings and think I was good at word games,’ he added.

‘And let’s face it, going up against actors, it’s not a high bar. I expected to do fairly well, so I was seriously humbled.’

Affleck and Damon have been firm friends for a long time after first collaborating on hit film Good Will Hunting 25 years ago.

They have since founded their own production company, Artists Equity, with the group’s first film Air set to be released on April 7 in the UK.

Air, which will see Affleck direct, tells the story of the rise of the popular Nike Air Jordans.

According to Amazon, where the film will eventually stream, it ‘reveals the unbelievable game-changing partnership between a then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division which revolutionised the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand.’

Fellow Wordle competitor Bateman is set to star in the picture alongside both Affleck and Bateman.

The cast also includes Viola Davis, Chris Tucker, Marlon Wayans, Chris Messina, Matthew Maher, and more.
