Borussia Dortmund have taken the lead over Arsenal in the race to sign Real Valladolid star Ivan Fresneda.

Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have both agreed a €15 million (£13.1m) fee with Valladolid for the right-back, with both sides agreeing personal terms with the 18-year-old.

The decision is now down to Fresneda, who has shone in La Liga this term, but Marca claim the full-back is now leaning towards a move to Germany.

The report claims Fresneda will not be swayed by whichever club offers to pay him the most money with his priority guaranteeing first-team football for himself.

Arsenal are looking for cover at right-back with Cedric Soares expected to join Fulham. Takehiro Tomiyasu is the club’s first-choice option in that role but having struggled with injuries this season, Ben White has regularly been deployed down the right.

Marca claim Arsenal have offered ‘no guarantee’ of a place in Mikel Arteta’s first-team, with Dortmund now in a good position to complete the signing.

Dortmund are also willing to let Fresneda remain at Valladolid until the end of the season before joining up with his new side in the summer.

Arsenal have made two signings this month to strengthen their title bid with the Gunners five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Jakub Kiwior sealed his move to north London on Monday, joining from Italian side Spezia in a deal worth £20million.

‘When I saw my name on an Arsenal shirt for the first time, I just laughed!’ Kiwior said. ‘I was so happy to see my name on the shirt of such a huge club.

‘For me, it’s an incredibly happy moment and the pinnacle to play for such a big club.

‘It’s huge for me that Arsenal were interested and that I’m able to be here. I’m aware that Arsenal are a massive club in a top league, so I didn’t really have to think about much else. I was just ecstatic and really wanted to come.’

Arsenal have also signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton in a deal worth £27million with the Belgium international coming off the bench to make his debut against Manchester United on Sunday.
