Ange Postecoglou angrily confronted a Tottenham supporter during his team’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday evening.

Pep Guardiola’s side took a major step closer to retaining the Premier League title as two second-half goals from Erling Haaland sealed their victory.

The result was what many Spurs supporters were hoping for as it means the Premier League title race is out of Arsenal’s hands ahead of the final day of the season on Sunday.

In the build up to the game, Postecoglou was perplexed by suggestions that Tottenham supporters wanted their team to lose in order to deny Arsenal their first Premier League title since 2004.

But Postecoglou was met with a subdued atmosphere throughout the match on Tuesday night, with some Tottenham fans even celebrating City’s goals inside the stadium.

Postecoglou was also involved in a heated altercation with a Tottenham fan sat behind the dugout, which was later shared in a video on X.

In the clip, Postecoglou was seen turning his back to the game, pointing at the supporter and saying: ‘What did you say? What did you say before that? Just so I know who you are. I got you. I know who you are.’

A commenter on X, who claimed to have sat near the exchange, said that the supporter was calling for Postecoglou and Spurs to deliberately lose the game.

In his post-match press conference, Postecoglou expressed his disappointment with the reaction from Tottenham’s supporters and claimed he ‘misread the situation’.

‘I think the last 48 hours has revealed to me that the foundations are fairly fragile,’ Postecoglou said.

‘I just think the last 48 hours have revealed a fair bit to me. That’s alright. It just means I’ve got to go back to the drawing board with some things.

‘I’m not going to tell you, because it’s for me. I’m the one who’s got to do it. You can make your own assessments of what’s happened. I understand. I probably misread the situation as to what I think is important in your endeavour to become a winning team, but that’s ok. That’s why I’m here.’

When asked what he made of the atmosphere in a separate interview with the BBC, Postecoglou replied: ‘It was a game of football.’
