SAN RAFAEL — One man was killed and two other adults were injured early Monday morning in a shooting inside the Helen Vine Detox Center, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
At 1:33 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a call from someone inside the detox center who reported that staff members had been shot. When deputies arrived, they located three shooting victims inside the center, located at 301 Smith Ranch Road, including a man who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Two other victims, a man and woman, were rushed to Marin General Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known, according to the sheriff’s office.
The unidentified suspect fled the scene and remains at large, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office searched the area with assistance from San Rafael and Novato police, the Central Marin Police Authority and the California Highway Patrol. The shooter was not located.
According to its website, the Helen Vine Recovery Center is “a licensed 26-bed co-ed residential detoxification program” that “provides welcoming, recovery-oriented services to individuals with alcohol and drug addiction issues, as well as co-occurring psychiatric problems.”
Detectives are actively investigating the case.
