A week into the shelter-in-place order may have some parents of young children pulling their hair out, but a Los Angeles mom has written and recorded a new kids’ rock anthem about puppies that just might help them make it through.
Megan Charney, a Los Angeles working mom with 1- and 3-year-old daughters, came up with the idea for the song, “Puppies! (Oh Ya Gotta Love ‘Em)” after she realized the power of “Baby Shark” to entertain and distract her daughters was starting to slip.
“Don’t get me wrong,” Charney said, “I love ‘Baby Shark,’ which has saved me many times when I needed a minute to distract my girls, but its power started to fade and I couldn’t find anything else they liked.”
In a state of desperation that any parent can understand, Charney wrote the lyrics then joined up with NoAnie Music, a duo of Steph Torres and Noah D’Innocenzo, to write the music and record the song. Charney and her husband rounded up their children and their friends’ children, along with a few puppies, to make the video.
“While the video turned out great, we only had an hour to shoot, which was mostly filled with the kids running and screaming, throwing pizza, juice and chocolate milk on the floor, and cleaning up puppy messes,”Charney says, “but it was worth it.”
So swim aside, Baby Shark (doo doo, doo doo doo doo). “Puppies!” is the new tune on the romper room deck.
