San Pablo: Train strikes car transporter

SAN PABLO — A collision involving an Amtrak train and a three-car transporter that left a train crew member injured Monday night, authorities said.

Shortly after 8:05 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of the collision, initially described as along tracks in the 700 block of Market Avenue just east of Soto Street in unincorporated North Richmond, CHP Officer Damian Cistaro said. Later reports had the collision atop tracks in the 900 block of Chesley Avenue in San Pablo.

Amtrak officials said its train 717 enroute from Bakersfield to Oakland collided with the truck on the tracks. There were no injuries to any of the 22 passengers on board the train and they were transferred to a connecting bus service. A crew member suffered minor injuries and was eventually treated and released, officials said.

Amtrak train 14 had a more than two-hour delay because of the collision.

Multiple agencies also responded to the incident, including ambulances and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters.

The circumstances that led up to the collision were under investigation.
