
OAKLAND — A person died late Thursday after they were struck by a vehicle while on foot on Interstate 980 near downtown Oakland, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities were alerted to a collision at the 12th street onramp on eastbound I980 at about 10:52 p.m. Thursday. A vehicle collided with a pedestrian, leaving the person dead at the scene.

It’s currently unknown why a pedestrian was on the roadway. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, according to the CHP.
