OAKLAND — A man was injured in a shooting Wednesday night in an East Oakland neighborhood, authorities said.
Around 5:35 p.m., police responded to reports of a possible shooting near 77th Avenue and Ney Street in the city’s Eastmont Hills neighborhood. When officers arrived, they found a man on the ground in the 7700 block of Ney suffering from several gunshot wounds.
A neighborhood visitor who did not want to give his name said he was about to head to the store for some beers when he heard multiple shots: “I thought it was firecrackers, it’s natural over here […] then I saw it and I was like ‘Damn.’”
Police briefly blocked off nearby streets to traffic to canvass the area for evidence, and found several rifle casings. Paramedics and Oakland Fire Department firefighters also responded, providing care before taking the victim to an area hospital.
Neither a victim condition nor a suspect description were immediately available.
For information leading to the arrest of a suspect, police are offering up to $5,000 in the shooting. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers of Oakland at 510-777-8572.
