‘Money Heist’: Park Hae-soo Teases How Berlin Differs in the K-Drama Remake

Netflix confirmed in late 2020, the hit Spanish series Money Heist would be getting a Korean drama remake. The series involved a character named the Professor (Álvaro Morte), who gathers a team of skilled thieves to break into the Royal Mint of Spain. The K-drama remake follows a similar story in a different setting. Squid Game actor Park Hae-soo is confirmed in the main cast for the Money Heist K-drama.

Park will play the role of Berlin, played by actor Pedro Alonso in the original series. Netflix has only revealed the drama’s main cast list and a small teaser of Yoo Ji-tae as the Professor during the Tudum event. In an interview with The Swoon for Squid Game, Park gives more insight into his Berlin character.

According to Soompi, Money Heist executive producer Álex Pina is more than excited for the K-drama. He explains the global phenomenon of Korean content that has transcended boundaries with its “unrivaled composition and culture.” Pina explains his excitement to see how the storyline for Money Heist will take place in the Korean peninsula.

Details of the K-drama storyline have not been revealed, but fans can be assured it follows the same storyline as the beloved Spanish series. The remake will also include the original character played by some of South Korea’s recognized actors. Alongside Park and Yoo, Jeon Jong-seo will play Tokyo, and Lee Won-jong will play Moscow. Soompi reported the complete cast list for the drama.

K-drama fans got a sneak peek of the Professor during Netflix’s Tudum event in Sept. In the events opening sequence, the original Professor needs help with a critical mission. He calls someone perfect for the job. The scene splits in two to show the Professor talking to the Korean version of the Professor. Fans finally got a look at Yoo in the role, complete with a leather jacket, glasses, and tie. A premiere date for the K-drama is not confirmed.

The cast of Squid Game appeared on The Swoon to promote the drama with a round of Netflix Bingo. The cast had to guess each other’s favorite series on Netflix. Wi Ha-joon admits he got invested watching Netflix because of Money Heist and is a huge fan. The Swoon had the perfect follow-up question and asked Park to confirm he would star in the K-drama remake of the series.
