SANTA CRUZ — The Santa Cruz County Coroner’s Office has identified a man found dead last week on Shaffer Road.
Michael Yaeger, 36, Santa Cruz, died July 15 outside a parked recreation vehicle in what Santa Cruz police are investigating as a drug overdose but were awaiting results of a coroner’s report, according to Sgt. Karina Cecena. An earlier article incorrectly indicated that Yaeger was associated with the nearby motorhome.

Yaeger was the father of two teenage children with Amanda Hoschke and was a lifelong Santa Cruz resident living on the Eastside, Hoschke told the Sentinel Tuesday. She said the two were separated but had remained close friends.
“It’s been really hard because he had a problem, but he was a good person inside,” Hoschke said. “He was an addict but he wasn’t a bad person.”
