Man fatally shot in East Oakland; wounded suspect later arrested


OAKLAND — A man was fatally shot Thursday night in East Oakland and a wounded man who showed up later at a hospital was arrested as a suspect in the case, authorities said.

Authorities were still trying Friday to identify the man who was killed.

The shooting happened about 8:57 p.m. Thursday outside in the 2600 block of 22nd Avenue, a primarily residential area.

Officers responding to a gunshot detection system alert found the unidentified man shot. Officers tied to aid the man, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police said an Oakland man who had gotten his own transportation to a hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. The man was in stable condition.

Police have not yet released any additional details about what led up to the shooting or said if the two men knew each other. Police also have not yet said what led them to arrest the man who showed up at the hospital.
