Large swaths of the Bay Area had unhealthy air Tuesday evening as wildfires raging further north in California and Oregon sent smoke pouring into much of the Bay Area.

Many of the air quality censors scattered throughout Alameda, San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties registered at unhealthy levels, which means the air can have negative health impacts, even on ordinarily healthy people. In Santa Clara County, many censors registered at unhealthy levels for sensitive groups, like those with asthma or other health conditions that place them at greater health risk from wildfire smoke.
