After years of trying, actress Gabrielle Union and NBA star Dwyane Wade welcomed their first child together Wednesday.
The couple shared the news of their newborn girl, who was born via surrogate, on social media. They posted pictures of themselves holding her, although a clear view of her was not shown.
Union started her Instagram post by quoting from Bill Withers’ 1977 “Lovely Day.”
She followed it up by saying, “We are sleepless and delirious but so excited to share that our miracle baby arrived last night via surrogate and 11/7 will forever be etched in our hearts as the most loveliest of all the lovely days. Welcome to the party sweet girl!”
Union, 46, had been open about her struggles with infertility. In her 2017 memoir “We’re Going to Need More Wine,” she wrote that she had miscarried eight or nine times.
“For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle or coming out of an IVF cycle,” she said.
